Writing and Illustrating Children’s Books

Instructor Diana Toledano

Learn what it takes to make a children’s book, so when the class ends, you can start your own! This workshop covers the basics of children’s book writing and illustrating. In a playful setting, using lots of examples, handouts and a variety of creative exercises, this class will help students to uncover new and exciting ideas. Plus, students will get a behind the scenes look into the creative work of a professional author. Class content covers what makes a good children’s book, the role of illustrations, how to create memorable characters, what is voice, the fundamentals of plot and more. If you love picture books and are interested in how to make them, come join us! Both beginning writers and illustrators are welcome.

Instructor Bio: Diana Toledano is an illustrator, writer and educator with 10 published books and over a decade of experience. She is also a Pisces who loves books, patterns, and dancing her heart out. Diana enjoys playing with different techniques to create detailed mixed media illustrations. Originally from Spain, she now lives in Northern California with her little bilingual family and two cats.
