Full course description
Fiction that Resonates
Wednesdays, 9/18-10/16/2024, 6:00-9:00pm
Location: Online
Instructor: Bronwyn Emery
We begin by working with personal narrative, exploring your thoughts and feelings about two or three of your life experiences so far. We might begin in the shallows, but will work our way into the depths, where the really interesting, poignant things lie in wait. Pretty quickly, we move from the hard stuff to the fun stuff. We extract the human and universal truths from your personal narrative, then experiment with storytelling alchemy to spin your reality into the kind of fantastic fiction that resonates with readers.
There are multiple layers and lessons in this workshop – learning where to begin writing a compelling story is just one of them. Keeping yourself safe as you write honestly is another, as is the value of shifting perspective and context to deepen your understanding and experience.
Each student will receive individual feedback during Engagement Lab hours.
Bring a notebook and a pen and meet us on Zoom!
This workshop is a great pre-curser to the Life Lines to Story Lines Writing Retreat!
