Full course description
Wednesdays, 2/22-3/22/2023, 6:30-8:30pm
Instructor: Kevin Jewell
This workshop will continue the study of the Irish language (Gaeilge), covering additional vocabulary and further study of grammar and syntax, but again with an emphasis on spoken Irish, and with additional discussion of Irish culture and history, as they relate to the language. This second workshop, while geared mainly to continuing the work of the Beginning Irish workshop, will also accommodate participants who did not take the first workshop, but who already have some Irish and wish to refamiliarize themselves with the language. There will once again be no required text for the workshop. Instead, useful handouts will be provided to the workshop participants, with other resources for studying Irish being discussed from time to time. Asynchronous learning opportunities will be provided through PowerPoint presentations, videos, and handouts which participants may review when convenient to them.
Workshops are taught online through Zoom and Canvas. Students will need a computer or smart phone with webcam and microphone, internet and web streaming capacity, and the Zoom application installed to their device. A device to capture images (digital camera, smart phone, or tablet, etc.) is helpful, but not required.
Instructor bio: Recently retired attorney who also held a California credential to teach French in high school. Kevin has previously been teaching with City Extension since 2019.
