Instructors: Megan Wegmann and Ferdinand Hartanto
Join instructors Megan Wegmann and Ferdinand Hartanto for this 5-week workshop geared towards the musician who's inspired to compose. The workshop will go beyond basic music theory and traditional composition techniques. Students will learn to write melodies, use harmony, and arrange music. Each session will inspire new ideas and new approaches to composition through creative exercises and assignments. By the end of the workshop students will be able to use tools for writing melodies, using harmony, and arranging music. Students will have a collection of original compositions by the end of the workshop.
Workshops are taught online through Zoom and Canvas. Students will need a computer or smart phone with webcam and microphone, internet and web streaming capacity, and the Zoom application installed to their device. A device to capture images (digital camera, smart phone, or tablet, etc.) is helpful, but not required.
Megan has been teaching music since 2015 and was music director of the City Jazz Ensemble at CCSF from 2017-2019. She currently teaches piano, voice, and jazz band at San Francisco Friends School and directs a private outdoor jazz band class for high schoolers in the Bay Area. Megan and Ferdinand have composed for groups such as the Cinnabar Singers, Anthony Blea's charanga orchestra, the Napa Symphony, and various Bay Area ensembles.
