9/12-10/10/2021, Sundays, 5:00-7:00pm with optional Engagement Lab hour 

Instructors: Megan Wegmann and Ferdinand Hartanto

Want to improve your improvisation skills and gain a better understanding of jazz? Join instructors Megan Wegmann and Ferdinand Hartanto for this 5-week workshop! The workshop will focus on learning new jazz tunes and mastering improv techniques and each session students will have the opportunity to play and receive feedback. Students will learn to develop a solo using rhythm, melody, various scales, chord tones and extended techniques and play a variety of styles, learning how to become better soloists. By the end of the workshop students will be able to solo over jazz tunes with confidence.

Workshops are taught online through Zoom and Canvas. Students will need a computer or smart phone with webcam and microphone, internet and web streaming capacity, and the Zoom application installed to their device. A device to capture images (digital camera, smart phone, or tablet, etc.) is helpful, but not required. 

Instructor Bio

Megan has been teaching music since 2015 and was music director of the City Jazz Ensemble at CCSF from 2017-2019. She currently teaches piano, voice, and jazz band at San Francisco Friends School and directs a private outdoor jazz band class for high schoolers in the Bay Area. Megan and Ferdinand have composed for groups such as the Cinnabar Singers, Anthony Blea's charanga orchestra, the Napa Symphony, and various Bay Area ensembles.
