Watercolor Monotype

Saturday and Sunday, 2/10-2/11/2024, 11:00am-4:00pm.

Students will learn watercolor techniques suitable for printmaking, allowing for multiple images and idea generation. They will learn to prepare a printmaking plate and create art using water-based and non-toxic materials.  The goals are idea generation and the possibility of a rich series of images using accessible materials.  Previous art-making, printmaking, or watercolor experience is optional. This workshop is a great introduction to the Watercolor and Water-Based Printmaking in Italy.

This is a small workshop, with a maximum of 8 students.

Some basic studio materials are included and are covered by a $10 materials fee.

Required Materials- bring what you have in your studio, including

  • watercolors
  • soft brushes in assorted sizes
  • pencils
  • plastic palette
  • notebooks/ sketchbooks
  • printmaking paper (teacher will provide some limited samples and some printmaking paper for sale)
  • paper towels
  • newsprint pads
  • exacto knife and scissors
  • protective gloves
  • good shoes for standing and walking

Optional Materials:

  • water-soluble crayons and pencils
  • water-soluble graphite
  • acrylic plates with beveled edges

This workshop will be held at a private artist's studio in the Potrero Hill neighborhood of San Francisco. The address will be shared with enrolled students before the first meeting.
