String Theory: Improv Quilt Block Workshop

Join us for a half-day workshop to learn the versatile “String Block” for quilting.
String blocks are a great way to use up fabric scraps and can add texture and interest to a quilt design. They can be arranged in various layouts to create different visual effects, making them a versatile and fun quilting technique.
MATERIALS LIST AND TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENTS:
• Students must provide their own working sewing machine
• Approximately 2-4 yards of a repurposed light colored sheet or muslin fabric which will be cut up to serve as the base for your blocks
• An assortment of fabric strips/scraps and/or pieces that can be cut up or sewing into strips (woven, not knit fabric such as t-shirts)
• Thread for machine
• Scissors
• 45” Rotary cutter
• An acrylic ruler and/or any acrylic quilting block rulers you might have and like to use.
• Portable cutting matt
• Sewing pins
Instructor Bio:
Lorraine Woodruff-Long Lorraine's work has been juried into art exhibitions at the de Young Museum/San Francisco, the California Heritage Museum/Santa Monica, the Sanchez Art Center/Pacifica, Muzeo Museum & Cultural Center/Anaheim, TAG Gallery/Los Angeles the Drawing Room/San Francisco, and the San Francisco Women Artists Network Gallery. She has received numerous awards for her quilts at local, national and international quilt shows. Quilt exhibitions include the International Quilt Festival/Houston, QuiltCon, the Pacific International Quilt Festival, Visions in Cloth, and Quilt San Francisco among others.
