Monoprinting Printmaking Workshop
Mondays, 10/28-12/2/2024, 6:00-9:00pm (no meeting 11/11)
Location: Ocean Campus, Visual Arts 107
Instructor: Robin Kaneshiro
Monoprinting combines painting and printmaking to create unique prints and variations. Basically, an image is created on an acrylic plate using ink. A sheet of printmaking paper is dampened with water, placed on top of the painted plate and then run through an etching press to transfer the image to the print paper. In addition to the original print, several variation can be achieved. For example, after the plate is run through the press, a lighter image remains on the plate consisting of the residual ink remaining on the plate. This residual ink is printed creating a "ghost print" which can then be reinforced and altered by adding additional ink to the plate and running the ghost print through the press on top of the plate. No previous experience is required.
Demonstrations will cover the following techniques:
1) reductive in black & white and the proper operation of an etching press.
2) additive painting and viscosity printing.
There will be adequate time after the demonstration for the students to execute the technique demonstrated. The fifth and last class will be used by the students to execute prints using any of the previously demonstrated monoprinting techniques.
Enrollment fee includes $25 studio fee which covers Printmaking inks & additives; clean up oils; hand cleaners; degreasers; tarlatan; clean-up rags
