Instructor Amy Hibbs

This class teaches how to use thumbnail sketches in watercolor as a valuable tool for working out compositions before embarking on a larger piece. It's also a great way to relax by making tiny paintings. We will make two sets of thumbnails, the first will be traditional simplified sketches with pencils and watercolor. The second set uses the thumbnail format to create small abstract paintings one deliberate brushstroke at a time. The process encourages meditation on the qualities of each stroke and color. The instructor will provide images though students are welcome to use their own images. This workshop is for all levels.

Workshops are taught online through Zoom and Canvas. Students will need a computer or smart phone with webcam and microphone, internet and web streaming capacity, and the Zoom application installed to their device. A device to capture images (digital camera, smart phone, or tablet, etc.) is helpful, but not required.

Instructor bio: Amy has been teaching art to all ages for two decades. Most recently she has taught at the Palo Alto Art Center and the School of Visual Philosophy.
