Playful Intuitive Art

Wednesdays, 9/14-10/12/2022, 6:00-7:30pm

Location: Online

Instructor: Michelle Champlin

This fun and exploratory mixed media class gives folks an opportunity to express themselves creatively through drawing, painting, writing and connecting with their intuition. We will be taking inspiration from unique real-world images while learning basic visual art techniques, experimenting with representational and abstract concepts  and using your intuition as a guide. We will also use intuitive free-writing as a part of the process and we will talk about how you could include writing in your visual art if you choose to do so. You get to be the orchestrator here: there is no right or wrong in this class and no prior experience is necessary!

Materials list:
basic drawing or sketch paper
a basic set of colored pencils
regular pencil (can be drawing pencils or basic No. 2 pencil)
eraser
pencil sharpener

Instructor Bio:
Michelle (Shelley) Champlin is a professional visual artist, educator, intuitive, and creative mentor whose artwork ranges from representational to intuitive abstract and tends to explore emotion, human perspective, healing, spirituality, and consciousness. Earning her Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Inquiry, Interdisciplinary Arts with a Visual Arts focus provided her time, space, and resources to delve deeply into her own truth, perspective, and process, both as an individual and as an artist an experience that informs her work every day. Her background includes working with a variety of populations including children, adults, and youth and adults who experience developmental disabilities. She is passionate about bringing opportunities for education, creative growth, and self-expression to the community as well as creating space for folks to contemplate and honor their own experience. Her belief that art gives us an opportunity to see in a new way, a vehicle to learn, and the power to convey is at the heart of her love of teaching.
