Mastering Color in Painting
Saturdays, 10/19-11/16/2024, 10:00am-1:00pm

Instructor: Robert Minervini

This workshop equips artists of all levels with the skills and knowledge to create captivating and impactful paintings. Through a combination of virtual lectures, demonstrations, interactive exercises, and personalized feedback, you'll delve into the fundamentals of color theory.
 
You'll master color mixing to create custom palettes, understand how paints and colors interact to achieve harmony or contrast, and learn to utilize color to create depth and dimension.
 
Additionally, you'll explore the science and psychology of color, discovering how different colors evoke emotions and how to leverage this knowledge for artistic expression. By the workshop's conclusion, you'll be confident in applying color theory to achieve specific moods and emotions, strengthen your paintings' visual impact, and elevate your artistic voice.
 
MATERIALS LIST needed for each meeting:
All supplies can be purchased at a local Art supply stores, like Dick Blick, hardware stores, craft stores, or online
 
  • Acrylic Paints (use brands such as: Golden Fluid Acrylics, Liquitex Basics Acrylics,or Winsor & Newton Galeria Acrylics): A basic student-grade set with at least 2 tubes each: Cadmium Red, Alizerin Crimson Red, Cadmium Yellow, Yellow Ochre, Cerulean Blue, Ultramarine Blue. 
  • A set of flat or round synthetic brushes with a variety of sizes (small, medium, large) for different painting techniques. 
  • Canvas Paper or Canvas Board at least 9x12 inches
  • Painter's Tape
  • Acrylic Matte or Gloss Mediums
  • Paper Towels/Rags
  • Sketchbook or Drawing Pad
  • Palette Knife: (optional)
  • Water Container
  • You will need to print out handouts and reference materials provided throughout the workshop. 
 
Instructor Bio:
Robert Minervini's artwork explores the relationship between nature and culture, and has been exhibited internationally. In addition to painting on canvas his work has been made into with numerous murals and public art commissions across the US. Currently residing between Florence, Italy and Oakland, California, he continues to create and teach as part of his artistic practice
