Learn to Draw: a Responsive Approach to the Figure

Wednesdays, 9/16-10/14/2026, 6:30-9:30pm

Location: Ocean Campus, STEM 212

Instructor: Linda Hope

Learn the fundamentals of drawing using a live model in this 5 session workshop, where the model will provide a limitless source of possibilities. With guided and timed exercises, learn to respond through movement to create animated and lively drawings. Primary elements of all drawings: Gesture, Line, and Value will be introduced, and processes and approaches will build on themselves over time to result in integrated drawings. Materials will be recommended for each exercise, and demonstrations provided. This workshop would be perfect for anyone who has never drawn before, or who thinks they cannot draw! It would also be an ideal review, even for those with much experience. There is a Model fee of $7 - $9 per meeting, collected on the first day of the workshop.

Drawing Materials:
• Rough Newsprint Tablet - 18" x 24" (Be sure it says Rough on the cover) OR “Sketch” Tablet - 18 x 24” (Paper is higher quality and whiter, usually 50-65 lb.)
• Compressed Charcoal pack with #2B, #4B, and #6B sticks
• Vine Charcoal (softest available - 10 to 12 sticks of various sizes. Try to get thick sticks because they are easier to hold)
