Introduction to Comics
2/12-3/12/2026, Thursdays, 6:00-8:00pm
Location: Online
Instructor Sarah Maloney
In this 5 week online class students will learn the basic of cartooning through warm ups, prompts, mini lectures, demos, readings, sharing and giving feedback and hands on cartooning experience. At the end of the five week class each student will have completed a 2-3 page comic and feel ready to continue making comics on their own. We’ll also have a visit with guest artist and author Yasmeen Abedifard
Required materials:
- mixed media sketchbook at least 9x12" ($12),
- drawing pencil or mechanical pencil ($4)
- Staedtler Mars Plastic Eraser ($2)
- Copic Multiliner Pens - A-2 Black Assorted Nibs Set of 7 ($17)
- Westcott Flexible Stainless Steel Rulers ($9)
- 18" center finding ruler ($6)
Instructor bio: Sarah (they/she) is a queer cartoonist, illustrator and educator. Besides their most recent self published comic, The World Ends With A Poot! They have self published over 12 comics and zines. Their work has appeared in The Stranger, The Believer, The Rumpus, Scarfff Newspaper and The SF Examiner. They graduated from CCA with their MFA in Comics. When they aren't making comics you can find them slinging comics at Silver Sprocket in SF.
