The Zephyr and The Mill Writing Retreat

Friday afternoon - Monday morning, 3/28 - 3/31/2025

Location: Amtrak and Reno

Instructor: Bronwyn Emery

If you have been looking for inspiration, motivation, and accountability for your writing, this is the retreat for you. The Zephyr and The Mill retreat begins on Friday, writing on board the Amtrak Zephyr as we cross Northern California and the Sierras into Nevada. It continues at The Peppermill Reno Resort in the writing suite and wraps up with more writing on the train as it takes us back to Emeryville on Monday. This workshop offers seven group writing sessions, two 30-minute 1:1 individual coaching sessions with Bronwyn Emery (one before and one after the retreat), three dinner table discussions, and three Proof of Write sessions where you share up to five minutes of the day’s writing for positive feedback from the group. This writing retreat is an intensive, immersive experience that offers 20+ hours of structured writing time across four days. It is the ideal environment for making significant progress on your short story or novel. On this retreat, you will learn the value of scheduling timed writing blocks for yourself in your everyday life, how to set realistic expectations around how much you can write over a long weekend, where your strengths lie, and how to embrace your creative identity.

Workshop fee includes:
Roundtrip travel from Emeryville to Reno on Amtrak, car service from Reno Amtrak to/ from hotel
3 nights single accommodation at the Peppermill Reno Resort
Shared writing suite
Dinner together one night, snacks

Instructor Bio: Bronwyn Emery is the founder, facilitator, and chief bottle washer of To Live & Write, an active community of writers based in the SF Bay Area. She is a writing and creativity coach who focuses on habit, practice, and turning the dream of writing into reality. It’s her job to stay ahead of the writers and develop opportunities for each one to start writing, keep writing, stretch their skills, and achieve their ambitions. To support their progress, Bronwyn hosts and produces a variety of events and activities for writers, including lit nights, game nights, workshops, labs, and writing retreats – and, of course, she offers 1:1 Private Coaching.
