City Summer Youth Academy is for students ranging from incoming 6th graders through currently enrolled high school students. CSYA is underwritten by a generous grant from the Wells-Fargo Foundation.
Physics - Theory, Problems and Applications
Monday-Friday, 7/18-7/29/2022, 9:30am-12:00pm, online
Instructor: Alex Roberts
Learn about four centuries of innovation in physics: start with Newton's Laws, continue to Electricity and Optics and then explore the world of Quantum Mechanics, which gives rise to magnetism, the atomic table of the elements and more before finishing with Relativity. Learn about the key experiments that helped us understand the world we live in, the theories that emerged and their real-world applications. Test your understanding by thinking about problems on these topics and by exploring interactive resources. Finally, watch videos on physics discoveries that led to key technologies in the last 70 years like Superconductors and Magnetic Levitation, Solar Cells, Quantum Computing and Lasers.
Class format: Mix of slides, problems/online resources and videos, via Zoom
Prerequisites: None, but fast-paced
