Data Science with Scikit-Learn
Monday-Friday, 8/1-8/12/2022, 2:30pm-5:00pm
Instructor: Alex Roberts
After learning basic Python concepts such as loops and data structures, we will create and manipulate data frames, the basic building blocks of data science, and learn how to display the output. We will see the concepts in action as we use them to gain an upper hand at a card game. Afterwards, we will use the Scikit-Learn package to create models to make sense of the data. You will use real data from the UCI heart disease dataset to try to predict if a patient has heart disease given information like their blood pressure, EKG and other diagnostics. After loading the data from the website, you will learn to clean it, prepare it for modeling and use Decision Trees, Logistic Regression and other popular models to make your prediction. You will learn the difference between classification and regression and why it is important to validate your model against unknown data. We will use the Google Colab environment, which is free for all.
This will be a live synchronous course. Students will need a computer or smart phone with webcam and microphone, internet and web streaming capacity, and the Zoom application installed to their device.
