City Summer Youth Academy is for students ranging from incoming 6th graders through currently enrolled high school students. CSYA is underwritten by a generous grant from the Wells-Fargo Foundation.

Advanced Animation Tahoma 2D

Monday-Friday,6/19-6/23/2023, 8:30am-11:00am, online

Instructor: David Hurwich

This is an advanced level animation course continuing from the theories and topics discussed from the entry level animation class . Students will learn more in-depth topics such as complex walk-cycles, voice-dubbing, complex story-boarding techniques, character design, animation theory and advanced animation techniques. Students will get hands on feedback as they progress to improve their overall skills. 

 

At the end of the workshop students will have produced their own animated short that can be exported and shared with others on platforms such as YouTube. Students will also get final tips and feedback during the last class session from professional animator Arne Wong, an industry veteran whose work includes: Tron, Tom and Jerry, CatDog, Darkwing Duck, among others. 

This will be a live synchronous course. Students will need a computer or smart phone with webcam and microphone, internet and web streaming capacity, and the Zoom application installed. Students will also need to install the free cross-platform program Tahoma2D. The program is free and can be run on Mac and Windows desktop computers.

Instructor Bio:

David Hurwich is a professional interaction designer and instructor. He has done contract animation / motion graphics for KQED, the WB channel and other television outlets. He is currently working on an animation ‘Weird Amazing Adventure Show’.

In addition to his professional work he is an instructor with almost fifteen years of experience teaching at the post-secondary level. He has taught design and animation at University of California - Davis, California College of the Arts, SAE Expression College, City College of San Francisco and others.
