Youth in foster care and in the Child Welfare and Juvenile Justice System often exhibit challenging behaviors which may result in a variety of mental health issues. This can lead to an array of diagnoses as a result of their traumatic experiences; frequently they are diagnosed with Conduct
and Mood disorders. Examine the root causes of their behaviors and cognitions as the youth relate to the trauma they experienced. Review the importance of correct diagnoses and how to work with the trauma to decrease acting-out behaviors. Explore strength-based approaches and the best ways to apply these in our work.
