Full course description

This training emphasizes planning group activities that are responsive to grief, trauma, and cultural identity while still being engaging and fun. Participants will explore how to design, adapt, and lead activities that allow for peer bonding, emotional expression, and age-appropriate participation. Special focus will be given to strategies for translating group experiences across developmental stages so that a single idea can be shaped to work in a variety of age groups. Whether supporting kids in school-based settings, foster care, shelters, or programs for young adults, participants will leave with practical tools they can use right away and a deeper sense of how group spaces can support healing, safety, and growth. Objectives Participants will be able to: Identify at least two benefits and two risks of group experiences for system-involved youth with a history of trauma or loss Design at least one creative group activity that can be translated across at least two developmental age groups Apply at least two strategies for creating safe, culturally responsive group environments for system-involved youth Transfer of Learning Participants will design and facilitate at least one group activity with their current clients or youth participants that allows for emotional expression or identity-building Participants will modify one existing group activity to be age-shifted for a different population in their program, using developmental insights from the training
