Full course description

This 4-hour Zoom-based workshop invites professionals to explore what happens when we stop

trying to “fix” youth and start noticing what’s already working. Rooted in Gallup’s strengths-based model, this training reframes how we see system-involved youth—not as broken, oppositional, or behind, but as people with powerful, underutilized capacities. Participants will examine how intensity, stubbornness, or withdrawal may actually be expressions of leadership, focus, or discernment—if we learn how to look. Together, we’ll dive into case scenarios, personal reflection, and real-talk about what it means to shift from compliance to connection. This isn’t about sugarcoating hardship. It’s about naming strength where others miss it, and making sure our systems learn to respond with respect, not correction.

Objectives:

1. Define Gallup’s core strengths-based concepts and apply them to the realities of youth involved in child welfare, juvenile justice, or special education.

2. Reframe at least two youth behaviors often labeled as challenging into potential strengths.

3. Practice using a strengths-based lens when analyzing a case or collaborating with team members.
