This training will provide an overview of what learning disabilities are and different types of learning disabilities. It's important for social service providers to recognize learning disabilities to advocate for system-involved youth to be assessed for learning disabilities when necessary and to advocate for adequate support in school. Participants will be to identify at least 1 characteristic of dyslexia Participants will be able to identify at least 1 characteristic of oral and written language disorder Participants will be identify at least 1 characteristic of dyscalculia Advocating: The educational system can be intimidating. It can be a challenge for parents and caregivers to navigate. So, we want to equip you with the knowledge and skills to better advocate for at-risk and system-involved youth. The training will provide a description of student and parental rights, common challenges parents and caregivers face and how we can overcome those challenges. We will discuss IEPs, 504 plans, Title IX services.
