Crisis Management and Safety Planning with Youth and Young Adults
System-involved youth may externalize their distress and engage in risky behaviors. So, it’s imperative for social service providers to learn how to navigate crises with high risk populations. The training will help providers understand the function of the behavior, how to apply harm reduction strategies, and how to create a safety plan with clients engaging in risk behaviors. The following behaviors will be discussed: running away, risky sexual behaviors, gang involvement, substance use, and being in an abusive behavior. The training is geared for an introductory-intermediate level.
1. Participants will be able to identify at least one factor to consider for a risk assessment
2. Participants will be able to identify at least 1 safety strategy for youth engaged in substance use
3. Participants will be able to identify at least 1 safety strategy for youth who run away
