Tuesday, February 18, 2025 9AM-4PM Location: Online via Zoom The Impact of Poverty on Youth and Families Growing up in poverty can have lasting impacts on youth and their families. It’s essential for providers working with foster youth to understand how their socioeconomic upbringing impacts their ability to understand poverty along with the challenges to get out of poverty. Its imperative to understand challenges poverty presents and to address it as it can be a risk factor for a variety of unhealthy and dangerous situations such as mental illness, gang involvement, involvement in the commercial sex industry and more. 1. Participants will be able to discuss how their socioeconomic upbringing impacts their work with systeminvolved youth. 2. Participants will be able to identify at least one impact of growing up in poverty. 3. Participants will be able to identify at least one strategy to better support youth and their families living in poverty.
