Full course description

This 8-hour training provides behavioral health professionals with comprehensive knowledge and practical strategies for assessing and treating individuals living with HIV/AIDS, with a focus on youth and young adults impacted by systems such as foster care and juvenile justice. Participants will explore the medical, psychological, and socio-cultural dimensions of HIV/AIDS, including risk factors, trauma, and stigma disproportionately affecting system-involved youth. Through case studies, interactive discussions, and California-specific legal and ethical guidance, attendees will strengthen their capacity to provide trauma-informed, culturally responsive care. This training equips professionals to better support the health and well-being of foster and system-involved youth at elevated risk for HIV exposure and barriers to treatment access.

The material will be delivered by PowerPoint presentation, short video clips, group discussion, breakout (small group) discussions and participant workbook (handout).
