Location: Online via Zoom

Examine the definition of sexual abuse and learn how to recognize signs and symptoms related to sexual abuse and trauma in children at various stages of their development. Study Information presented on sexual abuse and the traumatic impact it can have on children and adolescents. Explore factors affecting the impact of sexual abuse on behavior, learning, relationships, and cognition. Discuss the connections between sexual abuse and sexual exploitation, reproductive health issues, and how to talk to teens about healthy relationships. Review research on prevalence of STI's and teen pregnancy. For youth in foster care, the changes in adolescence occur in settings where they may lack the support of a trusted adult, the autonomy to make decisions about their well-being, or an awareness of health care resources. Discuss guidelines to understand and support youth who have experienced sexual trauma through these changes and help ensure their healthy transition to adulthood. Includes CSEC.
